Biography

For Danish glass artist Micha Karlslund painting, drawing, and making collages is as much a part of her studio practice as glassmaking. She creates vessels and panels with images applied to the glass in various techniques such as painting, sandblasting, and silkscreen printed decals where she includes original photography and images appropriated from print and digital media.

Often inspired by living in the Danish countryside, Karlslund finds art to be a way to comprehend and process the world around us. She describes the resulting work as “poems in solid form” or “poetic statements about being.”

Karlslund has served as an external examiner at the School of Design in Copenhagen and Bornholm and has been a member of the board and the Artistic Advisory Council at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Denmark.

She has exhibited in her native Denmark and internationally since 1988, and is represented in several museums and collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England, and Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen.
